Let’s start with the first 5 minutes of practice!
For the first 5 minutes of this specific time frame, I want us to choose something challenging or something that’s been difficult for us on the guitar lately. It could be a number of the techniques listed below:
First 5 Minutes
Speed Techniques
16th note Strum Patterns
Playing consistently to a metronome
Barre Chord transitions on multiple strings
Open Chord Transitions (G to C to A)
Alternate Picking
Maybe it’s a skill that I haven’t mentioned, choose that! And I want it to be a real challenge! After focusing on this for 5 minutes we can move onto the next 10 minutes which won’t be as tense.
But the main point is that we’ve spent those first 5 minutes on something we often get hung up on. If we tackle this every time we sit down to practice, sooner or later those barre chords aren’t an issue anymore!
On another note, if we know you need a bit of a boost to get started, then start of with something fun! Pay attention to our energy. Sometimes sitting down and jamming for 5 minutes is the best thing to get started. We can incorporate the “5 minutes of challenge” somewhere else within the 30 minutes.
Next lesson, we’ll get into the next 10 minutes.
